Sometimes, people experience luck even when something horrible happens. Alana and Ken were both at work when a neighbor noticed that smoke was pouring out of their house. The neighbor called the fire department and Ken; Ken called Alana. They arrived home to find their dog eating a snack in another neighbor’s yard and the firefighters hosing down the basement where an appliance had shorted out, burning the walls, ceiling, and some shelves. Alana and Ken were lucky; nobody was hurt, and nothing irreplaceable was lost.

Still, they had to face substantial damage.
